Barney Gordon

Barney W. Gordon, Board President (Resides in Area 1)

Barney Gordon is a native Californian and is happy to call Turlock home. Returning to California after spending over 10 years in the U. S. Navy, he and his family found Turlock to be a fabulous community with great educational opportunities.  Barney has always been a proponent of education as an equalizer and a solution to many issues facing our community and our nation.  As an instructor at the Navy's premier nuclear training facility in Charleston, S.C., he experienced firsthand how people from all walks of life could succeed after being given the opportunity.  Continuing in education, he worked for Modesto City Schools as a Technology Manager, taught computer maintenance at Modesto Junior College, and served as the Client Services Director for the Office of Information Technology at CSU, Stanislaus.  He currently works at Mountain View Los Altos High School District.

Barney is married and has two daughters. His children have attended several schools within Turlock Unified School District and he and his wife are very active volunteers in the District and the community. Barney has served as the founding president of Turlock Education Foundation, the founding president of Walnut PTA, the president of Turlock Council PTA, the chairman of the TUSD Budget Advisory Committee, the chairman of the Turlock Parks, Recreation and Services Commission, and other community boards and committees.

Bob Weaver

Bob Weaver (Elected and resides in Area 4)

Bob Weaver is a 4th generation Turlock resident.  His wife, Donna, is a teacher at Great Valley Academy in Modesto.  They have 3 sons, Blake, Ryan and Christian and all are currently attending schools at TUSD.  Bob is a graduate of Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.  He is a member of the PTA, a Scout leader, and youth sports coach.  Bob is a Fieldman for an agricultural supply company and a member of CAPCA (California Assoc. of Pest Control Advisors).

Lori Carlson

Lori Carlson (Appointed and resides in Area 2)

Lori Carlson was raised in Northern California by her parents, a farmer and a high school teacher, who taught her the value of serving your community and the importance of high-quality public education. She graduated from UC Davis with a B.S. in Human Development and from Fuller Theological Seminary with an M.A. in Marital and Family Therapy. She is married to Steve, a pastor at Turlock Covenant Church, and together they have four daughters who have all attended or are currently attending schools in TUSD. She is a Realtor at Aspire Home Real Estate, a spiritual director, a Science Olympiad coach Turlock Junior High School, a Character Coach in TUSD, president of the board of Turlock Youth Performing Arts, a volunteer at her church and in her community with Love Turlock, Turlock Gospel Mission and others. She is grateful for the opportunity to serve the community of Turlock as a TUSD trustee, working alongside a great team of leaders to advance the strategic plan of the district and ensure high-quality education for all students in TUSD.

Ken Malech








Ken Malech (Resides in Area 3)

Ken Malech was raised in Salinas, California and moved to Turlock approximately 30 years ago. Ken has four wonderful children: Kalina, Krysta, Craig, and Connor.  Ken and his lovely wife, Carleen, have enjoyed living in the City of Turlock and the education their children have received from the T.U.S.D. educational system.

Ken has earned his Master’s Degree in Education from California State University, Stanislaus.  Ken is credentialed in the State of California and is currently teaching for Modesto City Schools at Fairview Elementary School.  During his 20 year career in education, Ken has taught all grades in the elementary level other than 1st grade.  He believes his overall educational experience in the last 20 years will be invaluable to the School Board. Ken has also enjoyed coaching baseball and softball in various leagues for the last 12 years.  He and his family currently attend Monte Vista Chapel on a regular basis.

He cares very deeply about the overall educational welfare of the students of Turlock.  Ken considers it a privilege and honor to serve on the T.U.S.D. School Board. He looks forward to the experience of continually striving to make T.U.S.D. a better place for all that are involved.

Anthony Silva

Anthony J. Silva (Resides in Area 7)

Anthony Silva was born in Los Banos and raised on a dairy. He is married, has three children (Lisa, David and Denise), three step-children, six grandchildren and nine step-grandchildren. His wife Cheryl served as Director of Religious Education for twenty-one years. They are very involved with Sacred Heart Parish.

Anthony attended California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo where he earned a Bachelors of Science degree in Agricultural Business Management, teaching credential in Agricultural Education and a Masters degree in Education. Anthony began his teaching career in 1970 at San Benito High School, Hollister. He then went to Strathmore High School and on to Turlock High School in 1972. At Turlock High School Anthony taught agriculture science, government, economics and natural resource classes. He served as the FFA Advisor for twenty-four years. Anthony served as an officer for California Agriculture Teachers Association at the local and state level, serving as state president from 1987 to 1988. Anthony continues to supervise and mentor new teachers as they complete their student teaching assignments.

Anthony believes we need to provide a positive climate for students to learn and for teachers to teach; an environment where students desire to learn and teachers are eager to motivate students to learn. He believes in a strong career education model for learning. In high school he studied vocational agriculture and was very active in the FFA. He is a product of that methodology. Teamwork at all levels in our district is important. Turlock has great schools.

Frank Lima

Frank Lima (Resides in Area 5)

Frank Lima was born and raised in Turlock as a child of immigrant parents. He is married and a father of three children.  Each of his three children attends a different school in our district.  Frank has practiced law in Turlock for twenty years.  As a product of Turlock public schools, he feels personally indebted to our public education system, having obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree with honors in applied economics from U.C. Davis and a Juris Doctor degree from U.C.L.A.  Frank worked and paid his way through college.  He studied in foreign countries.  Frank also realized the good fortune and privileges we have with our public schools.  No matter how good or bad we judge our public schools, we have the opportunity and obligation to make our schools better.  We must hold ourselves and our schools to the highest of standards.  We cannot make excuses for our failures, and although we should enjoy and recognize our successes, we must always strive to make our schools better.

Mark Walker

Mark Walker (Appointed and Resides in Area 6)

Mark Walker has a rich family history associated with the San Joaquin Valley. His great grandparents arrived in the Modesto area in 1851 and subsequently moved to Turlock in 1880. His parents Dr. John C. Walker and Eileen Walker were active in the Turlock community. Dr. John C. Walker was a member of the Turlock Elementary School Board from 1960 until his passing in 1963. Mark sees his own service on the governing board a reflection of his father’s commitment to education.

Mark began school at Lowell Grammar School in 1957 and graduated from Turlock High School in 1970. He earned a B.S. degree in psychology from U.C. Davis in 1974. He earned his teaching credential, administrative credential and M.A. degree from California State University, Stanislaus.

Mark served as an elementary teacher, middle school principal and assistant superintendent in a career that spanned 33 years. He currently works intermittently as a labor department certified California Studio Teacher providing for the education, safety and welfare of minors in the professional entertainment industry.

Mark is an Eagle Scout, recipient of the BSA Silver Beaver Award and former vice president of the Greater Yosemite Council, Boys Scouts of America. He has served as vice president of the Diabetic Youth Foundation and was a founding member of the Salida Performing Arts Foundation. Mark has been a private pilot for over 40 years and volunteers his airplane for the Experimental Aircraft Association’s Young Eagle Program.

Mark has hosted eight high school exchange students in the past few years. Each student has spent an entire school year at one of the area high schools including both Pitman High School and Turlock High School.
