Who is Eligible?

You may be eligible for Medi-Cal if you are under the age of 19 or a pregnant woman (regardless of immigration status or date of entry) and are:

• A California resident.
• A U.S. citizen, national or eligible alien.
• Within income guidelines at or below certain levels, depending upon family size (family income levels for Medi-Cal are subject to periodic changes, so please call the toll free number of more information).
• An undocumented immigrant; an individual with refugee status. This individual may receive emergency, pregnant-related, and certain long-term care services only.

What documents do I need to provide?

There are three documents that you will be asked to present. The first is proof of income, such as your most recent pay stub, a signed statement from your employer or a copy of last year's federal income tax return. The second is your child's birth certificate or proof of immigration status. And finally, you will need proof of California residency.

Do the programs require citizenship and immigration information of parents?

Medi-Cal does not collect information on the immigration status of parents/guardians who are not seeking coverage for themselves. These programs cannot and will not provide information on the immigration status of such parents to the INS or use immigration information to demand or collect repayment information from recipients for services lawfully received.
