The following SchoolMessenger call went home today to the parents of Walnut Elementary Education students: This is a call from Turlock Unified School District.  We are calling to inform you of an alleged incident that occurred around 12:15 p.m. near the intersection of N. Walnut Ave and W. Springer Drive on Thursday, November 16th.  The following information was reported to the Turlock Police Department: Two students were offered a ride by an elderly, thin Caucasian male driving a four-door gold Lexus sedan who claimed he had been sent by their parent to pick them up.  Both students are safe.  At this time we have received no additional reports of similar activity near TUSD schools.  However, we would like to take this time to remind parents to have a conversation with their student or students about not talking to strangers and avoiding walking alone.  If approached by a stranger, encourage students not to panic and to run to a safe location to report the incident.

We would like to inform you of an alleged incident that occurred around 4:00 p.m. on Friday, October 13, near the bus stop at Columbia Park at Spruce and Castor.  The following information was reported to Turlock Police Department Friday evening; two female students were offered a ride by a middle-aged, thin, Hispanic male who spoke Spanish and was driving a four-door silver Nissan sedan.  The two female students declined the offer and walked straight home unharmed.

The Turlock Police Department and TUSD/Site Administration have confirmed there was no credible threat to the Pitman High School community in regards to an incident reported on Monday and then again yesterday on social media.

We take all threats of this nature seriously.  Any student who threatens the well-being of other students and/or staff at any school site, even if it is intended to be a joke or not cause actual harm will be immediately removed from school as transpired on Monday.

We are working collaboratively with TPD to address the spread of ongoing rumors and to follow-up on any additional and credible threats if made.  School Messenger communications, as well as Facebook posts from PHS and TPD, will continue as necessary as well.

A social media post took place over the weekend that allegedly made a threat to the safety of Pitman High School.  TUSD has a strong partnership with the Turlock Police Department and we appreciate them taking quick action to immediately investigate over the weekend and determine who was responsible.  Please be assured that we do not tolerate any threat to the TUSD community even if it is not done with the actual intent to harm.  The responsible parties have been identified and will be held accountable for their actions.

All of us can learn from these types of unfortunate, and unnecessary, incidents.  Please speak to your students about the importance of using social media in a responsible manner.  Thank you for supporting our efforts to teach, model, and reinforce an appropriate online presence for our students so that everyone remains safe and focused on the positivity of growing and learning!
