The Turlock Police Department and TUSD/Site Administration have confirmed there was no credible threat to the Pitman High School community in regards to an incident reported on Monday and then again yesterday on social media.

We take all threats of this nature seriously.  Any student who threatens the well-being of other students and/or staff at any school site, even if it is intended to be a joke or not cause actual harm will be immediately removed from school as transpired on Monday.

We are working collaboratively with TPD to address the spread of ongoing rumors and to follow-up on any additional and credible threats if made.  School Messenger communications, as well as Facebook posts from PHS and TPD, will continue as necessary as well.

A social media post took place over the weekend that allegedly made a threat to the safety of Pitman High School.  TUSD has a strong partnership with the Turlock Police Department and we appreciate them taking quick action to immediately investigate over the weekend and determine who was responsible.  Please be assured that we do not tolerate any threat to the TUSD community even if it is not done with the actual intent to harm.  The responsible parties have been identified and will be held accountable for their actions.

All of us can learn from these types of unfortunate, and unnecessary, incidents.  Please speak to your students about the importance of using social media in a responsible manner.  Thank you for supporting our efforts to teach, model, and reinforce an appropriate online presence for our students so that everyone remains safe and focused on the positivity of growing and learning!

As Halloween approaches, a number of reports have been made to Turlock Unified School District and the Turlock Police Department regarding drivers of vehicles wearing masks (clown and others) around the community, including our schools.  Most recently we have learned of sightings near schools that include a white van with the driver wearing a clown/mask.  Our school District, School Resource Officers, and community police continue to communicate, monitor, and respond with a sense of urgency to ensure the safety of all.  Please continue to report any suspicious activity to site or district administrators or to TPD by calling 911.

In light of the clown phenomenon that was heightened this month, and the number of concerned calls from staff and parents regarding fears and safety of our TUSD community, we are strongly discouraging students and staff from dressing in clown costumes for Halloween and related activities.   The presence of any clowns on or about our campuses, and in our community, would create unnecessary turmoil and uncertainty for children and adults alike.  As with all distractions, we have a responsibility to eliminate such so that students, parents, and staff feel a sense of security in our schools and community.

In our continued efforts to keep all students and schools safe, in collaboration with the Turlock Police Department (TPD), earlier today we suspended a TUSD student, and will be recommending expulsion, following the student’s “creepy clown threat” on social media that targeted a specific school.  We will continue to investigate each alleged incident and take the necessary steps to eliminate such.  It is important to note that any social media post that threatens a school or student(s) may be considered a terrorist  threat.  Please continue to contact school administrators or TPD to report any suspicious activity.

As of late today, we have received one unconfirmed report of a clown sighting as well as reviewed a number of “clowning” social media posts.  Unfortunately we cannot control the amount of inaccurate information being shared on Facebook, Twitter, and the like, but site and district administrators do continue to follow-up on all reports as well as communicate such with Turlock Police Department to ensure the safety of all students and surrounding school areas.

Turlock Unified School District regretfully announces that Joe Debely Stadium will be temporarily unavailable for use, effective August 24, 2016 ,until further notice, due to the weakened condition of the stadium turf. Recent tests and attempts to recondition the turf have been unsuccessful so a decision to immediately close the field was made until corrective action has been completed expeditiously.  School and community athletic programs were notified today and we will continue to provide the necessary support to create alternative plans to accommodate athletes and athletic programs. TUSD takes great pride in providing quality facilities to our youth and community.
